Borehole Seismic Data
Science operator: Texas A&M University
Hole: U1462C
Expedition: 356
Location: Northern Carnarvon Basin (Tropical SE Indian Ocean)
Latitude: 19° 49.2764' S
Longitude: 115° 42.6186' E
Logging date: September 10-11, 2015
Sea floor depth (driller's): 98 m DRF
Sea floor depth (logger's): 97.5 m WRF (MSS/HRLA/HLDS/EDTC/HNGS uplog)
Total penetration: 1048 m DRF (950 m DSF)
Total core recovered: 398.29 m (43.4 % of cored section)
Oldest sediment recovered:
Lithology: Packstone.
SEISMIC TOOL USED: VSI (Versatile
Seismic Imager)
The logging data
was recorded by Schlumberger in LDF format. All processing, including first
arrival picking and stacking, was performed by Schlumberger during
Expedition 356. The data was then
converted into SEGY format at USIO/LDEO, using code developed in house.
In hole U1462C a total of 245 shots stacked in 27 stations generally spaced 25 m apart were recorded between 874 m WRF (776.5 m WSF) and 205 m WRF (107.5 m WSF). The seismic data were of good quality, despite the size of the hole, which locally exceeded 20 inches.
All the data in
the SEGY files are sorted shot by shot (i.e. chronologically).
Additional information about the drilling and logging operations can be found in the Operations and Downhole Measurements sections of the expedition report, Proceedings of the International Ocean Discovery Program, Expedition 356. For further questions about the logs, if the hole is still under moratorium please contact the staff scientist of the expedition.
