Latitude: 15° 51.8024' N
Longitude: 81° 50.1333' E
Logging date: August 14, 2006
Sea floor depth (drillers'): 1050 mbrf
Total penetration: 1250 mbrf (200 mbsf )
Total core recovered: 30 m (33 %) from Hole 21A
Hole 21B was a log-dedicated hole, which was drilled to a depth of 200 mbsf. The drill pipe was initially set at 60 mbsf, but the DIT/APS/HLDS/HNGS tool string would not pass a bridge at 100 mbsf. After pulling the tools out of the hole and lowering the pipe to 120 mbsf a second attempt was made, but the tool string would not pass below 160 mbsf. At this point it was decided to pull out of the hole, but the string would not reenter the pipe despite several attempts. It took more than two hours to recover the tool string (after raising the pipe as high as it could go) but the wireline reported some damage and about 10 meters had to be severed. No further logging was attempted.
