Logging Runs

Logging string 1: DIT/APS/HLDS/HNGS (HLDS without source; 3 passes)

Wireline heave compensator was used to counter ship heave.

Bottom-hole Assembly

The following bottom-hole assembly depths are as they appear on the logs after depth shift to the sea floor. As such, there might be a discrepancy with the original depths given by the drillers onboard. Possible reasons for depth discrepancies are ship heave, use of wireline heave compensator, and drill string and/or wireline stretch.

DIT/APS/HNGS: Bottom-hole assembly at ~102.5 mbsf.

Processing

Depth shift: The original logs have been depth to the sea floor (- 3183.5 mbrf). ). This amount corresponds to the mudline as seen on the logs, which differs 4.5 m from the "bottom felt" depth given by the drillers (see above).

Gamma-ray processing: The HNGS data from DIT/HLDS/APS/HNGS was corrected for hole size during the recording.

High-resolution data: During pass 3, neutron porosity data were recorded at a sampling rate of 5.08 cm.

Quality Control

null value=-999.25. This value may replace invalid log data.

During the processing, quality control of the data is mainly performed by cross-correlation of all logging data: the data is of acceptable quality, though it does not show a lot of character. Due to sticky conditions, Hole 1108B could be logged only over a very short interval. No valid HNGS data could be recorded in the 115-126 mbsf interval; HNGS data from pass 1 and 3 have been spliced to obtain maximum coverage.

Data recorded through bottom-hole assembly, such as the HNGS above 102.5 mbsf, should be used qualitatively only because of the attenuation on the incoming signal.

Hole diameter was recorded by the hydraulic caliper on the HLDS tool (LCAL).
